Building up a castle

As you may know, starting from October 1st I’m going to live in Providence, RI, to attend Brown University as a research assistant at the CS dep.
Setting up everything is needed to go abroad: paperwork from the university, visa, accomodation, furniture, health insurance, and so on. It’s like building a castle and at the moment [...]

GPG key updated

FYI, I updated my GPG key.

Calver Liver with onions, Venetian style, and white figs

4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
8 onions, very thinly sliced
Salt
1 pound calves liver, thinly sliced
1/3 cup red wine
8 little white figs, sliced in quarters
Heat the olive oil in a large, heavy saute pan over a medium flame. Add the onions and cook them over low heat until they are very soft but not too colored.
Salt the [...]

New HD

My Thinkpad R50e came with a 40GB HD. Too little space for my coming needs, as the laptop (krapfengeist) will be my main technology tool while in the US.
Therefore, I decided to buy a new 160GB HD and today I configured it with GELI+Gjournal, dumped my old HD to it and swapped the HDs.

Drops of thoughts

Randomly chosen and thought about things I put on my “what to change in my life” list:

What
Why

Start drinking tea for breakfast
I like tea and I suppose it’s healthier than coffee. But is it?

Practice some kind of physical activity on a daily basis
I’m fat. Uh.

Begin developing my own BW films
Amateur photographers must develop their own [...]

Authors

Italian literature from the period 1944-1960 is full of treasures mostly unknown to the majority of Italians.
Vittorini, Fenoglio, Gadda, Calvino: they’re all masters.

The big jump

These days I caught myself thinking about my life in the States for eight months. Many aspects of it are going to change with new ones coming in and old ones going away. Will I miss them?
At the beginning of Pulp Fiction, Vincent Vega says:”But you know what the funniest thing about Europe is?” and [...]

The show begins!

Today I met with Prof. Pietracaprina and Ph.D student Fabio Vandin and discussed about my thesis work. We came up with some suggestions about what to look for in the short term and I hope to study the problem and get back to the Professor next week.
I’m really happy to start working, because my life [...]

Back in town

To relax. Alone with myself. Mission Impossible.
“…and now, why are you so good in making me going crazy? …” (Me, just now)

Fully Empty

Exams never end? False! I finished my exams on July 9th and I’m ready to go to Brown University in October. Yes, I’m excited.
But.
But once you’re done with your duty and you should be light and happy like fresh air, that’s the time when deep feelings come out. Life is not only about your [...]
