The role of Art and the supposed uniqueness of her message

Today..well, yesterday, I had a really good day. The main events of the day included studying with my “oxonian” friend Giacomo at the Department of History’s Library, a good do-not-do-anything afternoon, an aperitive with friends and a dinner with Giacomo and his father at one of the best old pub in Padova, the Osteria L’Anfora. We had a really good discussion about Art: in my opinion the message that any person gets from a piece of Art, being it a paint, a sculpture or what ever, has the same value as the message that another person gets from the same object, even if both get messages that the author didn’t intend to transmit. Giacomo argued that there are messages more “true” than others and if person A, who got his own message, discusses with person B, who got a different message, and, while discussing, they find another message, that message is more correct. I don’t want to bother you with our discussion, so I end the post here, but I may write something about this in the future, so be warned! :)

[...] It’s not that I enjoys arguments. I love them, as I said in an older post. Your opinion cannot evolve and grow if you don’t accept argumenting about it. Most of all, argumenting your opinion is one of the best way to understand whether that is really your opinion or not. [...]
